Aeschi sits on a sunny terrace (850 - 1,100m above sea level) overlooking Lake Thun. It is an ideal place to escape the hustle & bustle of daily life and the noise & pollution of urban living. Its central location and good public transportation connections make it an ideal starting point for day trips throughout all of Switzerland.
For example from Aeschi's post office with bus and train
| to: | Basel | Bern | Davos | Geneva | Lucerne | Lugano | Schaffhausen | Zermatt | Zurich |
| takes: | 1'49" | 66" | 4'23" | 2'44" | 1'54" | 4'40" | 2'44" | 2'08" | 1'52" |
This is a pretty good indicator of Aeschi's centrality. Only trips to the cantons of Ticino (Lugano) and Graubunden (Davos) fall almost out of the "day trip" range. For train and bus schedules please go the Swiss Federal Railroad web site.
If you are here with your car, the same trip
| to: | Basel | Bern | Davos | Geneva | Lucerne | Lugano | Schaffhausen | Tasch | Zurich |
| takes: | 1'45" | 40" | 4'15" | 2'20" | 1'40" | 3'15" | 2'40" | 2'15" | 2'00" |
These times are calculated for a leisurely drive. For Zermatt the road ends at Tasch, from there the only way in is by rail. For route planning go to the finaroute web site.
If you were ever told "to take a hike", then Aeschi would be the place to do it. Over 42km of paths offer great hiking and rambling possibilities. For more information on hiking in the Canton of Bern please visit the Bernese Hiking Trail Association (in German) web site.
For those who prefer to get around on a bike, Aeschi, and for that matter the whole region, is crisscrossed with well marked bicycling routes for the ardent mountain biker and the Sunday peddler. Bicycles can be rented at the Aeschi Tourism Office and at over 150 train stations and other locations throughout Switzerland. For more information see the cycling in Switzerland web site.
On rainy days, instead of swimming in Lake Thun, try a quick swim and maybe a visit to the sauna in Aeschi's indoor pool, visit many of the well known attractions in the Bernese Oberland or go shopping in Bern! If you have questions or need help please go by the Aeschi Tourism office, contact them by phone (+41 33 654 14 24)or at info@aeschi-tourismus.ch.
Once again Aeschi's trump card is its central location. Aeschi itself has two ski lifts and two training lifts, 25 km of normal cross country skiing trails and 5 km of cross country skating track. Aeschi also has the Swiss Ski and Snowboard School which offers lessons to those new to the world of skiing and boarding. Naturally for those who like to hike, there are many kilometers of winter paths ready and waiting. Naturally, the indoor swimming is open in winter and a visit there makes for a great combination after a day of skiing. Many attractions in the area are also open in winter.
The travel time
| to: | Adelboden | Grindelwald | Gstaad | Lenk | Meiringen/ Halisberg |
| is by car: | 45" | 50" | 1'20" | 1'30" | 55" |
| is by public transportation: |
1'22" | 1'33" | 1'48" | 1'36" | 1'29" |
